It feels a little strange to reflect that Help to Buy is only in its seventh year. Having become so popular and well established in the market, the scheme seems like it has been around forever. Its government-backed equity loan has been a vital route to home ownership, but it has also been a valuable stepping stone for existing homeowners. Thanks to Help to Buy, second and third steppers have been able to aspire to bigger and better, but time is running out for them to take advantage.
From 1 April 2021, the terms of Help to Buy change and it will only be available to first-time buyers. That means that purchasers further up the ladder will need to legally complete a Help to Buy move by 31 March.
If that seems like a limited timeframe, the practical reality is even tighter: 28 February is the government’s building deadline for homes sold through Help to Buy in its current form. Due to the hold-ups caused by Covid-19, this deadline was extended from its original date of 31 December, but it still leaves precious little room for delay.
There’s still time with Orion Homes…
Fortunately, Orion Homes can still offer some viable Help to Buy opportunities for existing homeowners. At Jubilee Gardens in Gilberdyke, we will be able to complete plots 5, 7 and 9 before the February deadline, including properties which are ideal for homebuyers seeking to increase their level of luxury and living space via Help to Buy. If you’re ready to reserve, we can offer these beautiful new homes with Help to Buy’s government-backed loan of up to 20% which is interest-free for five years – reducing the size of your required deposit and enabling you to afford your dream move.
